Have you been appointed?

Have you ever wondered what it might feel to be called to something?
I feel as though God has laid three distinct calls on my life. Of course, God called me to be a wife and mother–I never doubted either and embraced those roles happily.
However, there were three times when God called me to do something I might otherwise have been reluctant to take on without that clear calling.
The first time was a call to write. At a women’s retreat I followed the speaker’s direction to find a rock, sit on it, and wait until God spoke. He did: “I want you to write for me.” Since I had no idea what that meant, clearly the idea was from God. That calling led to my attending writers’ conferences, learning the ropes, and following his continued leading to write articles, books, and speaking messages.
The second time was a call to teach. I never wanted to be a teacher, so it took a literal nightmare of children dying in a fire for me to understand that God wanted me to teach high school English. I enrolled immediately in a teacher credential program . . . and a half year later was doing my student teaching.
The third time was a call to pray. I had begun an early morning walking regiment and praying through mental lists when I saw a young man hand over his toddler girl to a daycare worker before six in the morning. The little girl said, “Bye, Daddy. I love you.” I felt the single dad’s heartstrings being pulled and understood that God wanted me to pray for everything he put within my eyesight in my little town. And praying while walking became prayerwalking.
Perhaps God has appointed you. Be open, listen, and watch God work in your life. He will make it crystal clear!
“Thank you, Lord, for choosing me.”
