Ever wanted to change your name?

Have you ever wanted to change your name?

When I was younger, I wanted a different name, not one of an aunt who had struggled her whole life.

Then I learned that “Janet” means “God’s gracious gift.” That I could accept–a gift of God as opposed to a curse of a prior generation.

Except that I then needed to learn how to live up to that new name concept. “Grace” then became my very first Word of the Year.

God changed Jacob’s name to Israel when He told him that He was giving to him the land he had given to Abraham and Isaac. Jacob’s offspring would become the twelve tribes of Israel–a whole nation of people who would follow God.

We also have a heritage of faith we can pass down to those who follow us. Even though we may not have literal heirs, we can always influence others around us for the better . . . simply by reading God’s Word, allowing it to change our hearts, and following the path God has set before us.

Change isn’t easy . . . but it is for our benefit as well as for those who come later. Be an element of change today!
“Lord, I am ready for whatever task you set before me.”
