It was NOT well with my soul

It Was Not Well

It was not well with my soul
When my sister died
The trump called out: her heart in bliss.
Mine, dissected.

Sorrows rolled just like seabillows,
Washing away Joy.
The smile that would dazzle a room–
Tide stolen.

It was not well with my soul
When she slipped away.
Peace forgot to attend my class.
Soul, broken.

But one day I sensed her nodding
With great approval
As I wrote, “How can I pray?” . . . then
It was well.

Poignant, moving, heartfelt grief and pain. I understand this so much. God bless your transparency and spirit-filled expression, Janet. I just had to/have to surrender to rest in His love and grace. However, I find it so difficult to stay and maintain that intimacy with my Lord, because of dark memories and flashbacks, and triggers to trauma. It is a cursed battle. I have been struggling so for the last two months. Continuing to seek His healing power.

I’ll go days for a time . . . and then something will trigger a memory. She was more than my sister; she was also my best friend, someone I could call and talk and talk. I am thankful I have dear memories.
