When your life doesn’t add up

ho – li – ness
the state of being holy
“a life of holiness and total devotion to God”
synonyms: sanctity, divinity, godliness, saintliness, sanctitude, sacredness, faith, devotion, devoutness, divineness, blessedness, spirituality, religiousness, piety, piousness, righteousness, goodness, perfection, virtue, virtuousness, purity, sinlessness
As I contemplate the idea of holiness today, I wonder what God would think of my day. Would/could my daily things add up to holiness in his eyes . . . somehow?
A less than enthusiastic rising from the bed.
Forty-five minutes of getting put together for the day.
A bowl of Cheerios.
Interactions with #9 grandkiddo for Thursday’s #nanaschool.
A half hour of reading chapters in the Bible and art-journaling in the margin.
Hours on the computer answering emails, posting memes on social media, interacting with folks.
Study for yet another possible book project.
A letter. A few texts. Messages. More emails. More . . .
And on the day goes . . .
Do they add up to holiness? Is it math?
a + b + c + x + why + z = holiness?
I don’t think so.
So, I contemplate the cross this season and give thanks for God’s gift of holiness to me: his son Jesus, the Christ, the cross-carrier who bore my sins–my lack of holiness
–for my sake. So that none of the above had to add up to holiness.
And I embrace holiness instead in the Savior Who Loves Me despite the fact that I don’t add up.
Run to him today and let him do the math.

Thank you, Tracie! The Lord has challenged me for many years now to read through the Bible each year. In the last year as I choose scriptures to meditate on, I try to consider how they are impacting me. Just simple reflections I hope encourage others.
