The best romance of all time

Like a good romance?
I do. I used to teach a couple of my favorites, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
My favorite movies are You’ve Got Mail and . . . of course, Pride and Prejudice, the A&E/BBC one.
However, the all-time best romance is in the bestselling book of all time, the Bible. It tells the story of God’s pursuit of a relationship with his creation–from the patriarchs through the judges, kings, and prophets to Jesus, God incarnate, who came to earth that we might know the Father’s love for us.
There have been only a few books that I’ve read more than once–other than the ones I taught students every year.
However, the Bible is one that I read each year, cover to cover. You get the bigger picture of Why Jesus . . . and all the pieces about laws and rules and religion become understandable. He pursues us not to control us or punish us but to have a relationship with us . . . simply because he loves us.
And that’s the best story of all–even better than happily ever after.
