Feeling discouraged? Need a breakthrough?

Are you in a place of weakness in your life?

Me, too! I can’t do everything I’d like to do with this crazy post-dislocated shoulder.

But perhaps that is just where God wants us right now.

I love the story of Gideon. I wrote about him in one chapter of a Bible study that I created for First Place for Health–a study on biblical characters who demonstrated strength, a book that will be released later this year.

An angel appeared to Gideon one day, calling him, “The Lord is with you, O mighty man of valor.”

But Gideon was confused. He asked the angel that if the Lord is indeed with them, why the Israelites were under the thumb of the Midianites, who devoured their produce and grazing animals and forced them to live in mountain caves. Gideon told God they felt forsaken.

The truth was that the Israelites had abandoned God and followed other gods of other peoples.

But now that his people were seeking him again, God had a plan. He would use the mighty man of valor, Gideon, but virtually strip the masses down from a fighting 32,000 to a mere 300 to face the Midianites.

With trumpet shouts (probably shofars) the Midianites headed for the hills . . . and the victory fell to Gideon.

Perhaps you’re in a place of emotional brokenness or physical weakness. Perhaps you’re tired of the fight. Perhaps you’re just plain exhausted.

It just may be that you’re on the cusp of breakthrough. God uses us in our weakness, and when he does, others are drawn to him.

So keep on, faithful ones. Breakthrough is coming. Just keep . . . Looking Up!
