Life from a different view

A childhood experience has stuck with me all these years. I was riding down our busy residential street in Hudson, New York, when I saw a woman approaching me.
She had her head down, but as we passed each other, she looked up, and I noticed she had the saddest eyes I’d ever seen. In that instant I saw Pain personified.
And I wondered why God only allows us to see life through our own eyes. Why could we not see life the way others see it–through their eyes?
It was the most curious of thoughts I’d ever had up until that ripe old age of ten or twelve. And I buried it for forty years until I had the opportunity to write others’ stories for them–and God allowed me to see their experiences through their eyes.
As we approach this weekend when we remember Christ headed to the Cross for our sakes, it is also well to remember that he did so because he was seeing life through our eyes–a life without God unless he provided a way. And that way was the Cross.
