Who is this Jesus anyway?

I was a sophomore in college when I welcomed Jesus into my life.

While I had attended church all my life, I had never known I could have a personal relationship with God.

One Sunday night my college roommate and our next-door neighbor invited me to go watch a FREE movie they’d seen the day before: For Pete’s Sake.

Free movie? Those were magic words for a college kid.

In the film, produced by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, the main character, Pete, learned he could have a personal relationship with Christ by inviting him into his life. The word “personal” kept hitting me over and over and over again. I had never heard that before in the liturgy of the formal church I had always attended.

I stood that night at my seat and asked Jesus to come into my heart.

It was a revolutionary mindflip–as though I were seeing people and life, especially my own, through completely different lenses. I had purpose and a hunger to know more in a way I’d never experienced about anything.

I particularly wanted to know what was in that white leather Bible with my name etched in gold on the cover. And I began reading it . . . that book filled with stories and teachings I’d vaguely heard of before.

Committing my life to Christ in a public way and reading the Bible filled my life as though I were drinking water for the very first time. A parched soul immersed in life-giving water.

Refreshed. Satisfied. Transformed.

If you’re wandering in a desert looking for something to drink, perhaps you’d like to meet my Savior, Jesus. You can invite him into your life by praying this prayer:

“Jesus, I confess that I’ve been separated from you. I invite you to come into my life and be my Savior and Lord. Fill me with your life-giving Spirit and be my guide for the rest of my life. Amen.”

Let me know if this is the prayer of your heart. If you don’t have a Bible, I can send you one. Start reading with the book of John, where there are many answers about who Jesus really was and is. Welcome.
