How I know God is good

People say, “If God is good, why is there so much pain in the world?”
I could go all theological on you and throw out all all manner of logical arguments.
But here’s what I know.
When I had years of depression, God sent friends who loved me nonetheless.
When my dad died of ALS twenty years ago, God saw my mom and us five kids through that time and the years since.
When my husband was wrongfully convicted of crimes he did not commit, God gave us the ability to write the court appeal and WIN at the California Court of Appeals. And that almost never happens, an appeals trial attorney recently told me (he’s only won ONE case in his entire career).
When I could not sit or stand and was suffering from level 10 pain and needed back surgery, God worked through a surgeon to correct my problem.
When I realized I was addicted to painkillers (as a result of the back pain), God got me off those painkillers in TWO DAYS. And I had no pain.
When our four kids wanted to go to college and we needed financial aid, God provided. All four completed their degrees–two with master’s degrees.
When I was uncertain about retiring from teaching, God provided a way for me to get debt free and then provided contracts for three books within six months of retiring.
One thread through the ups and downs of my life has been holding on to God’s Word and its promises. Yes, there were times when I slacked off. But it stands true and is an open book for all of us to examine and study and use in our daily lives.
Praying for you today . . . that you find refreshment in God’s Word and see him working in your life today.
