Replacing weeping with joy

How do we find joy in such a time as this?
I have a friend, Pam Farrel, who is an inspirational speaker and the author of 50 books. Even when she is going through a challenging time, when you ask her, “How are you doing?” . . . she will respond, “Choosin’ joy!” with a big smile on her face.
She has that perspective that hard times are a part of life, but that God’s strength and goodness and provision can always overshadow the pain and losses we experience.
With her perspective as inspiration, I decided to do a joy inventory this week. I can choose joy because . . .
– My husband Craig loves me.
– He whacked the weeds behind our place the last two nights . . . without my reminder. (Hey, those weeds were whacking the joy out of me!)
– My daughter Bethany is all right, despite nasty gashes to her head from surfing yesterday. (See my personal page for a photo.)
– Our 10 grandkids are all well. Our kids are well. We are well.
– The high school WILL have a commencement–a ceremony on the football with a drive-in feature. (Seniors have been asking for an outdoor ceremony for decades! I know, because I was always the one to say no–it’s a lot of extra work for setup and the weather is iffy here.)
– I finished a big landscaping job, and it is so satisfying.
– My children and theirs love God.
I could take out all the rest other than that last one, and it would be enough.
So . . . what would you list in your joy inventory?
Janet McHenry is an inspirational speaker and the author of 24 books–six on prayer, including the bestselling PrayerWalk and her newest, The Complete Guide to the Prayers of Jesus. She would LOVE to serve as the speaker for your next event:
