Are you a happy camper right now?

Among my dad’s wise sayings was this: “What the worst thing that could happen?”
That always struck a note of rationality with me. Remembering his words, I could then think through the worst case scenario and either make a plan and move forward or turn the whole mess over to the Lord if the matter was over my head and beyond my reach.
His worst case scenario did pan out: he died five months after being diagnosed with ALS–amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
However, he had turned the whole mess over to the Lord and was sweet and even funny until his last breath.
The day before he died a nurse came into his hospital room and said, “Did you call me, Bob?”
He said, “Why would I call you Bob? Your name is Connie.”
You see, he knew that the true worst case scenario was that he would leave the arms of this earth and walk into the arms of his Savior, Jesus. He had a heaven perspective. He had faith that God was on his side, so he need not fear.
People are living in one of three camps right now:
– Camp One: Fear. They are panicked that they will get the virus and die or that someone they love will get the virus and die.
– Camp Two: Anger. They are angry because others are cramping their lifestyle.
– Camp Three: Faith. They are not afraid. They are not angry. They have seen God take care of them their whole lives and know he will take care of them now. They are demonstrating faith by living their lives the best they can without criticizing the other two camps but instead serving them and reflecting a loving direction at the Lord Who Is on Their Side.
I’m not much of a camper in a literal sense. But I am doing my best to pitch my tent in Camp Three.
How about you? If there are three camps of folks, where are you pitching your tent?
Janet McHenry used to alternate pitching a tent in either Camp Fear or Camp Anger, but she has decided that Camp Faith provides a much better sleep. The author of 24 books, she loves sharing about how her praying lifestyle has dramatically changed her life and may be contacted through her website:
