Getting the right directions

How do you know what to do? Do you have a good plan, a schedule, a to-do list for your days? Or are you more of a go-with-the-flow kind of person?

During these C-19 months, I must admit I’ve been a slug. Yes, I’m completing tasks–writing articles, responding to emails, even doing some speaking.

But I otherwise have let Confusion slip in for my larger writing tasks. One of my problems is that I have so many different ideas, and one seems as good as another.

A friend once told me of her first experience driving in Europe. She got caught in a roundabout and just kept going around and around and around, not knowing which way to go. I felt like that a couple weeks ago.

Yes, I’m reading my Bible. And yes, I pray about such things. Each night this is my prayer: “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” But nothing.

So I sought the help of a writing consultant I trust. And her counsel gave me the direction I needed. Since then I’ve revised two major writing projects and begun efforts to put together an audiobook for PrayerWalk and an online course.

I learned years ago that there are four ways we can know God’s will: through the Bible, through prayer, through circumstances, and through the counsel of wise believers. So, I am learning that it’s kind of refreshing not having to have all the ideas, all the wisdom, all the next steps. Sometimes understanding can come from bits of all those places.

Isn’t it great that our God does not want us to live in a state of confusion? I am so thankful for his guiding hand in my life–through his Word, prayer, circumstances, and others he has placed around me.

How do you need prayer today for direction?
