My dad was brilliant and kind. He once said, “There should just be one law: Be nice.”
Doesn’t that make sense? If we made all our decisions based on the consideration for how they affected the people around us, what a better world this would be.
When put to the test by legalists, Jesus said the greatest commandment was to love the Lord your God “with all your heart and with all your soul and without all your mind.”
Then he added that the second greatest commandment was to love your neighbor as yourself.
Some people think the New Testament does not sync with the Old Testament, but what Jesus always did was reveal the spirit of grace in regard to the Law.
The first four of the Ten Commandments were these:
– You shall have no other gods before me.
– You shall not make or worship carved images.
– You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
– Remember and keep the Sabbath holy.
In other words: Love God.
The next six of the Ten Commandments were these:
– Honor your father and mother.
– You shall not murder.
– You shall not commit adultery.
– You shall not steal.
– You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
– You shall not covet your neighbor’s anything.
In other words: Love people.
Faith is simple. We put our faith in God and love him. And then we share God’s love with others in tangible ways.
Keep it simple: Love God; love people. And keep #LookingUp!
